When it comes to their marquee races, LaShawn Merritt and Terrence Trammell are undefeated in 2009.
Their streak continued this past weekend in New York City at the Reebok Grand Prix, with LaShawn winning the 400m in 44.75 seconds, and Terrence streaking to a 13.12 finish in the 110m hurdles.
LaShawn reflected on the dominance of the U.S. in the sprints.
"We're pretty much known as the powerhouse country," said LaShawn. "If any athlete is like me, you still want to be known as the powerhouse country."
Terrence, who is rebounding in dramatic fashion from the summer of 2008, discussed his latest victory after the race.
"I wanted to make sure I attacked the first part of my race," Terrence said.
"I should have stayed more aggressive. I feel good how things turned out. On the last two hurdles, I didn't get my lead leg down like I wanted. It's still a month until USA Nationals. By then, everything will be okay."
