Merritt Nears an Undefeated Season

Icon Management's LaShawn Merritt racked up another victory in the 400m this Saturday, winning the World Athletics Final in Thessaloniki, Greece, with a time of 44.93.

While a far cry from his best race of the year, LaShawn defeated his closest competition, Chris Brown of the Bahamas (45.49), by more than half a second.

Afterward, he explained to TrackAlerts.com:

“I got out smooth, though the time was not good. But you can not expect to run faster at the end of the season. All that matters is to win,” said Merritt.”

With his latest win, LaShawn extended his unbeaten run to 12 straight races -- he hasn’t been defeated in the 400m since July of 2008 -- and continued to prove there’s no one in the world better in the 400.

“I think I can now be called the best 400 m runner – I have earned that,” he said.
