Merritt Leads Icon at Prefontaine

Continuing his unbeaten streak in 2009, LaShawn Merritt sprinted to a dominant win the rarely run 300m this past weekend at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.
LaShawn won his race in 31.30, and afterward, felt good about the victory and his sensational start to the new season.
"The three is right down my alley. You had great 400m runners and 200m specialists. I know I can run with the best in the world in the 200m in that field so I knew I was in the right position. I know that I have the strength of the quarter-miler."
OTHER NOTABLES
Damu Cherry crossed the finish line second in the 100m hurdles in a photo finish 12.74...Shawn Crawford finished fourth in the 300m with a time of 32.47, and sixth in the 100m in 10.21...Angelo Taylor took fourth in the 400m hurdles in 48.79 but was just .6 behind the first place finisher...Walter Dix finished third in his 100m race in 10.07...Vonette Dixon finished seventh in the 100m hurdles (13.31)
