Icon Inks Dexter Faulk

Icon is proud to welcome hurdling standout Dexter Faulk to the family.

Dexter is one of track's great stories. He picked up the sport on a whim as a 10th grader in Atlanta and went on to become a junior college standout at Barton County CC. He burst onto the world scene in the 110-meter hurdles in 2009.

"[I] got into track just because I didn't have anything else to do." he said. "I walked out on the track and a guy was doing the hurdles. I said ‘I want to do that event' and it went from there."

Dexter was the fifth fastest man in the world in the 110mH in 2009, behind only former Olympic medalists Dayron Robles, David Oliver, David Payne and Terrence Trammell.

Dexter's time of 13.13 in Ostrava on June 17, 2009, was the eighth fastest in the world that year. He also ran a 13.14 one month later to win at Meeting Areva in Paris, France. For his career, Dexter has two Golden League wins. Later in 2009, Dexter took the Silver Medal at the IAAF/VTB Bank World Athletics Final.

Dex's best in 2011 came last month when he ran 13.35-second 110mH to finish fourth at Meeting Citta di Padova in Italy, less than a tenth of a second off the winning pace set by Robles.

"I've come a long way…and I think there's a lot left in my system," he said. "Once I put it all together there might be a world record in there somewhere."

Dexter did not qualify for the 2011 World Championship with Team USA, but he is using that as motivation to train harder and compete at a higher level in the future.

"A minor setback for a major comeback like in 2009. Everybody who makes the world team, they won't beat me the rest of the year," he told FloTrack. "At the end of the day, I'm going to keep running the way that I run…whatever meet I get into, I'm going to make sure that I run faster than everybody else."
